A Vogue-Worthy Wedding: How a Sailcloth Marquee Became the Heart of the Celebration

There are weddings that are beautiful, and then there are weddings that linger in your memory long after the last guest has gone home. Not because they are the grandest or most extravagant, but because every element feels considered, effortless and entirely personal.

When British Vogue featured the wedding of Eni and Aaron at Casterton Grange, it wasn’t simply celebrating a stunning dress or an idyllic setting. It was celebrating a wedding where fashion, landscape, culture and thoughtful design came together to create something unforgettable.

For the team here at Special Event Tipis & Marquees, it was a privilege to play a part in bringing that vision to life.

Being the team behind the sailcloth marquee, the woodland ceremony setting overlooking the lake, and the outdoor celebration space used during the couple’s vibrant Nigerian wedding festivities, we had the opportunity to help shape the backdrop to an extraordinary weekend, one that felt every bit as elegant in person as it does on the pages of Vogue.

A Celebration That Felt True to the Couple

Set within the quintessential English gardens of Casterton Grange, the wedding embraced everything that makes a private estate celebration so special. The landscape wasn’t treated as a backdrop; it fully became part of the experience.

Guests moved naturally between different spaces across the estate, each one designed to create its own atmosphere while remaining connected to the wider celebration. From the peaceful woodland ceremony overlooking the private lake, to the relaxed drinks reception on the patio and the beautifully dressed sailcloth marquee, every stage of the day felt intentional.

The celebrations reflected Eni and Aaron’s personalities, heritage and the people they love most. The weekend began with a vibrant Nigerian celebration, where family and friends gathered around outdoor tables and a dedicated dancefloor, creating an atmosphere full of music, colour and joy. The following day, guests returned for an elegant woodland ceremony overlooking the lake before celebrating beneath the sailcloth marquee, where the wedding breakfast and evening reception unfolded.

Rather than feeling like separate events, the two days complemented one another beautifully. Each celebration had its own character and traditions, yet together they told one story, one that honoured culture, family and the couple’s shared vision for an unforgettable wedding weekend.

It’s this balance of elegance, warmth and authenticity that undoubtedly caught the attention of British Vogue.

Why Sailcloth Was the Perfect Choice

Some wedding venues ask for bold styling and others ask you to step back and allow the setting to speak for itself. Casterton Grange is firmly the latter.

Surrounded by open countryside, fairytale woodland avenues and uninterrupted views, the venue doesn’t need a structure that dominates the landscape. Instead, it deserves one that complements it.

This is where our sailcloth marquees come into their own.

Unlike traditional PVC marquees, a sailcloth canopy has an almost weightless quality. Its translucent canvas allows natural daylight to filter gently through the roof, creating a bright, airy atmosphere during the day before transforming into something altogether more intimate as evening falls.

Supported by handcrafted timber king poles and elegant sweeping peaks, the structure feels architectural yet organic, equally at home within the grounds of a private estate as it is beside the coast or overlooking open countryside.

For photographers, this quality of light is invaluable.

Soft, diffused daylight flatters both people and styling, while the neutral canvas allows florals, tablescapes and carefully chosen details to take centre stage. It’s one of the reasons sailcloth marquees are increasingly becoming the structure of choice for couples planning luxury outdoor weddings.

In this case, the marquee didn’t compete with the surroundings. It enhanced them.

Designing a Celebration Across Multiple Spaces

One of the greatest advantages of a marquee wedding is the freedom it offers.

Rather than asking every part of the day to happen within a single room, the celebration can unfold naturally, allowing guests to experience different settings as the day progresses.

For Eni and Aaron, that meant creating several distinct spaces across the estate.  A woodland ceremony overlooking the lake provided an intimate setting for the couple to exchange their vows, surrounded by nature and framed by breathtaking views across the water.

The sailcloth marquee then became the heart of the celebration, welcoming guests beneath its elegant canopy for dining, speeches and an unforgettable evening reception.

Alongside this, we also created an outdoor space complete with tables and a dancefloor for the couple’s Nigerian celebration—a joyful gathering full of colour, music and energy that perfectly complemented the more intimate atmosphere of the wedding day itself.

Although each area served a different purpose, they were carefully considered as part of one seamless guest experience. That’s often the difference between simply hiring a marquee and creating a truly memorable wedding. It’s about understanding how people move through a celebration, where they gather, where they pause, and how each setting contributes to the atmosphere of the day.

Capturing the Beauty of the Day

Anyone who has browsed the pages of Vogue will know that exceptional weddings are about far more than beautiful details. They are about storytelling.

Photography plays a vital role in that story. Beautifully captured by Paulina Bruni, every image reflects not only the incredible styling but also the atmosphere that surrounded the celebrations.

Natural light pours through the sailcloth canopy, highlighting the textures of the tablescape, the soft florals and the handcrafted timber framework above. As daylight gives way to evening, the marquee takes on an entirely different character, glowing warmly as guests gather to celebrate late into the night.

It’s this ability to evolve throughout the day that makes sailcloth marquees so distinctive. They never feel static.

Instead, they respond to the changing light, the landscape and the rhythm of the celebration itself.

More Than Just a Marquee

One of the things we love most about working with sailcloth marquees is that they become part of the architecture of a wedding. They’re not simply somewhere to shelter from the weather.  They create atmosphere. They frame views.

They encourage guests to step outside with a drink in hand, watch the sun begin to set over the countryside and drift effortlessly between indoors and out.

For couples planning a luxury wedding at a private estate or family home, that flexibility is invaluable. Every celebration is different. Some lean towards understated elegance, while others embrace vibrant traditions, multiple ceremonies and weekend-long festivities.

The beauty of a sailcloth marquee is that it adapts to each vision without ever losing its own quiet sense of character. That versatility was beautifully demonstrated throughout Eniola and Aaron’s celebration.

A Setting Worthy of the Story

Looking back at the images featured by British Vogue, it’s easy to admire the fashion, the styling and the extraordinary attention to detail. Yet what stands out just as much is the feeling.

The sense that nothing has been forced.  That every decision, from the woodland ceremony setting to the sweeping sailcloth canopy, belongs exactly where it is.

That’s what exceptional weddings achieve. They’re not defined by trends or extravagance. They’re remembered because they feel authentic.

We were incredibly proud to see one of our sailcloth marquees become part of that story and to help create a setting that celebrated not only the beauty of Casterton Grange but also the personalities, traditions and vision of an amazing couple.
